The number of blood donations was 331,378 between may 20 and june 30, which had decreased by 1.1% compared to the same period of 2014. the supply of red cells, platelets, and plateletpheresis for transfusion reduced by 3.5% from 387,549 units to 374,164 units.

In spite of a slight decrease in blood donation, the Korean Red Cross and mass media contributed to the stable blood supply with a timely response and promotion of blood donation.

The supply of red cells and platelets decreased by 1.3% and 9% respectively, while the supply of leukocyte reduced plateletpheresis increased by 19.6%. However, the supply of platelets increased by 3.8% when one unit of plateletpheresis was converted into six units of platelets.

The reduced supply of blood products for transfusion was due to the decreased number of patients for transfusion as the total number of outpatients diminished.
